Civics 1

The previous week before this, me and the other 9 students of the MyLife Project had a goal, to propose an idea for a skatepark at the board meeting, on August 20th, to the fresno county CDBG. Starting from the first day of school, this only gave us a 6 day time frame to get everything done. First we had to get all the details on when and where this was going to take place, from there we needed to know the agenda and if we would fit into the scheduled discussions that were to take place there. On the agenda was a hearing for commmunity proposals and it gave anyone from the community 5 minutes to talk about what they felt were appropriate use for the CDBG grant. We then split into groups on different needs for the project. Irene, Julisa, Melisa, and Jasmine typed out the proposal for the grant. This included summaries, budget costs, introductions, and our struggle to make it happen. Adan called the Fresno police department to get ahold of security details and views on the skate scene in Laton and was our public speaker at the meeting. I took the liberty of getting a 3d blueprint made for the skate park along with getting the petitioned signed, receiving a letter of recommendation from Dr. Audet, calling the fire department, speaking at the meeting, and helping spread the word to the skate community to bring more awareness to the struggle it is to be a skateboarder In Laton. Mathew and Fernando were present at the meeting and helped represent the MyLife Project. This was a great project to start and I think it really brought us together as a group, really had us use teamwork, and  helped us believe in each other because without everybody's contribution I don't believe it would have been able to happen. I thank everyone in the project that helped.  I greatly appreciate it.
